Stellenbosch in action against Polokwane City.

Stellenbosch finally registered their first victory in the Premier Soccer League over the season after their defeat over Polokwane City 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Coach Steve Barker must be overwhelmed by this victory as this is a big deal for his career. Polokwane City is a difficult opponent so that makes this victory even more of a success. Soccer 10 is here with all the details;

Stellenbosch – Polokwane City 2-0

Iqraam Rayners kept his place in the side after opening his account for this season. In the Stellies, Rafiq de Goede finally made his debut. The visitors got off into a fine start as Waseem Isaacs turned his marker before drilling the ball beyond George Chigova. It would be his fourth goal of this season on 17 minutes.

As Rayners raced clear on goal, the lead was doubled three minutes later. Rayners smashed a goal past a helpless Chigova for this second goal in as many games. Rise and Shine started the season very promisingly but they were only like a shadow of their former selves. They struggle to play against Stellenbosch defence, who surprisingly dropped the veteran Morgan Gould.

Coach Steve Barker looked relieved after his team played a great game
and earned a first Premier Soccer League victory.

The home side started with a full strength in the second half to fix the disappointing showing in the first half. They were pushing themselves to score a goal but Stellenbosch defence was standing firm.

The visitors were confronted with a blow with 20 minutes remaining as Junior Awono was forced off with an injury. Awono was replaced by club captain Jarood Moroole. Rise and Shine was throwing everything forward as the time begun to run at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Despite that, men from the Western Cape remained resolute as they held on for the first-ever Absa Premiership win. This win moved the Stellies up to the 14th sport, while Polokwane dropped to fourth. Check the PSL results to see the full performance of these clubs in the Premier Soccer League.
