Real FC History

This club was founded all the way back in 1902 on 6th March. Their traditional home kit was white since the beginning. The word ‘real’ stands for Royal in Spanish and the term was given to the club by King Alfonso XIII in 1920 together with the royal crown in the emblem.

Since 1947, the team has to play their home matches on the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium ground which has a capacity of 81,044 people. What’s interesting about this club is that it is completely owned and operated by members of the team. At this point, the club is worth around 3.8€ billion and it is among the highest-earning clubs in the world.

Not to mention, this club is one of the most widely supported ones in the world. They are also one of the three members who founded La Liga along with Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

They became a major force already in the 1950s when they won five consecutive European Cups and reached the final seven times. The success was the same within the league where they won five times in a period of seven years. At that point, the team was considered to be one of the greatest of all times.

In domestic matches, they won 33 La Liga titles, 19 Copa Del Rey, 10 Supercopa de España, a Copa Eva Duarte, and a Copa de la Liga which is in total 64 trophies.

In the European and Worldwide competitions, they have 26 trophies which consist of 13 UEFA champions league titles (which is still a record), 2 UEFA Cups and 4 UEFA Super Cups. Not to mention, the international football championship where they achieved a record seven club world championships.

Early years

Origins of the club go back to the time when football was introduced to academics of Institución Libre de Enseñanza which also included several Oxford and Cambridge graduates. They founded Sky Football in 1897 and that is where it all begins.

It was commonly called ‘The Society’ and was the only one in Madrid. They played on Sunday mornings at Moncloa. In 1900, a conflict between members caused some of them to leave and create a new club which was called ‘New Society of Football’.

Among the members of the new club, there was also the president of Real, Julián Palacios and two brothers, Juan Padrós and Carlos Padrós which later became presidents as well. In 1901 the club got the name Madrid Football Club. However, until 1902 when Juan Padrós elected a new board president, the club was not officially founded.

Only three years later they already won their first title against Athletic Bilbao in Spanish Cup Final. They also became one of the founding sides of the Royal Spanish Football Federation on 4 January 1909. In 1920, their name was changed to the one we know today after King Alfonso XIII granted the title of Real (Royal) to the club.

The first Spanish Football League was founded in 1929 and Real led the first league season all the way to the final match where they lost to Athletic Bilbao. However, in the season 1931/1932 season, they won the title and did the same following year which made them the first team to win the championship twice.

Real Madrid FC Records

Raúl González Blanco holds the current record for most appearances with 741 first-team matches played. Just behind him is the Iker Casillas with 725 appearances and Manuel “Manolo” Sanchís Hontiyuelo with 710. Casillas also holds the record for a goalkeeper with the number of appearances and is a most capped player with 167 caps.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an all-time top goalscorer, with 450 goals while six other players have also scored over 200 goals. Those are Alfredo Di Stéfano, Santillana, Ferenc Puskás, Hugo Sánchez, Karim Benzema (2009–current) and the previous goalscoring record-holder Raúl González Blanco.

Ronaldo also holds the record for the most league goals scored in one season and holds the record for being the top goalscorer of all time in La Liga history with 311 goals.

The record for the fastest goal in the history of the club (12 seconds) was scored by Ronaldo on 3rd December in 2003 during a match against Athletic Madrid. The highest attendance of their games was 83,329 back in 2006. On the whole, the capacity of their home stadium, Santiago Bernabéu, is 81,044. Their average attendance was still highest in the 2007/2008 season of all European Leagues. The club also has a record of a longest unbeaten run at home in La Liga and record for winning the European Cup/UEFA Champions League thirteen times.

In June of 2009, real broke its own record in highest transfer fee ever paid in the history of football. They paid Manchester United 94 € million for services of Christiano Ronaldo. However, the record was again broken when Juventus signed Ronaldo for 100 € million.

La Liga table

The full name of this league is Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División and it is the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system. It is contested by 20 teams and the three lowest-placed teams at the end of each season relegated to the Segunda División and replaced by the top three teams in that division.

At this point, real is holding the first place in la liga table. However, the year before real vs barcelona ended with their loss 5:1. Real and Barcelona are top clubs so it’s no surprise that they are exchanging the spot. So follow the goal news so you can keep up with the latest changes within the club.

In laliga table you can see that Atletico is also among the very top and these three clubs have always ended up among the three first places. However, at this point, Atletico is in sixth place while Sevilla took the second one. Barcelona lowered down on 15th place while RCD Mallorca holds the third place.

However, this is just the beginning of the season so there is much more yet to come. But stay informed about laliga log so you know how to place your bet. Real dominated in La Liga from the 1960s to 1980s when Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad joined in.

From 1990’s Barcelona had dominated the entire thing and won 16 titles in spanish league table. Since then nobody had actually got a chance to win the title because of these top three clubs.

Madrid Players

At this point, the team has 26 players of which are 2 goalkeepers who are Keylor Navas and Courtois. The defenders are these following players; Carvajal, Militao, Sergio Ramos, R. The presently forwards are Hazard, Benzema, Bale, Lucas Vazquez, Jović, Asensio, Brahim, Mariano, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. From the beginning of the team’s career, they exchanged many team captains. For example, their first team captain was Arthur Johnson in 1901 until 1902. José Giralt took over as the club got its original name. Federico Revuelto took over a year after. Luciano Lizárraga was also a coach for only one year while José Berraondo stood at the place from 1905 to 1909.

José María Castell took the place for a year and then came Santiago Bernabéu who was a captain from 1915 to 1921. Juan Monjardín took the place from 1921 to 1924. Later in the 2000s, Manuel Sanchís took over the place from 1998 to 2001. At that point, vice-captains were Fernando Hierro, Fernando Redondo, Raúl. Until that point, there were never vice-captains.

Fernando Hierro became the team captain in 2001 and stayed until 2003 with the vice-captain Raul. Of course, it was the time for Raúl to take the place in 2003 and he stayed until 2010. At that time, the vice-captains were Guti, Míchel Salgado, Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos and Sergio Ramos. Iker Casillas took over in 2010 and was on the spot until 2015 with his vice-captains Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Pepe, Gonzalo Higuaín and Cristiano Ronaldo. Sergio Ramos became the team captain in 2015 to this day. At this point, vice-captains are Marcelo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane.
