Amakhosi lacked incision so their opponent’s goal was rarely threatened despite their efforts in the first half. Itumeleng Khune was sitting on the Chief’s bench while goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi got into action. He had put his side on the back-foot after just 15 minutes in the game, earning a penalty by clumsily upending Charlton Mashumba.

Jabulani Maluleke slashed the spot-kick, so Chiefs looked for a response as they continued to battle in the attack. Chibwe was not overly tested, with only one exception in 32nd minute. In 32nd minute he reacted sharply to turn Eric Mathoho’s header over the bar.

Kaizer Chief’s coach Middendorp put Khama Billiat into the game after half time. This Zimbabwean was soon in the action, turning at the near post just before giving a stinging shot which got blocked by Chibwe.

Soweto side looked a lot more purposeful in the early staged of the second half but Kearyn Baccus then sent a sweetly-struck half volley from 30-yards out of the mark.

Later in the game, The Kaizer Chiefs started struggling to defend while their help arrived only in the 72nd minute. Chibwe managed to save Mathoho header, then brilliantly tipped George Maluleka’s curling effort over the bar, making a stunning point-blank save on Khama Billiat’s header.

Polokwane defence was throwing bodies on the line just to keep out the frustrated home side. Chibwe outdid himself in this game, with two saves in a crucial time. Nurkovich didn’t win penalty later on but he came down easily.

The Amakhosi had the very poor defence, leaving them vulnerable, it backfired. Chiefs just didn’t find a way through Polokwane City so they will have to take this hit while working on improving their strategy for next game.
