Premier Soccer League might have a surprising outcome
Chiefs’ were pushing their limits after losing several players because of booking and injuries. Erich Mathoho is the one who got red-carded as well but he escaped unpunished in the end. Chiefs went 10 points clear of second-place Mamelodi Sundowns who will play Golden Arrows on Sunday in Durban. This season, Chiefs are chasing their first league title in five consecutive seasons, last won over Pirates in 2014.
This season they won nine matches with one draw and one loss while Pirates got stuck in a ninth position with only three victories. Pirates, as well as Chiefs, have gone four seasons without lifting a trophy so both of them are starving for success. After Chiefs won over Pirates in a quarter-final, many supporters feared that the second derby will fall short.
However, Chiefs didn’t let their fans down and a game was something to remember. Kaizer Chiefs are sharing the Premier Soccer League first spot with most goals which is 19. SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic are second on the list with 15, followed by Orlando Pirates with 14. Mamelodi Sundowns just as Highlands Park both have 13 while Lamontville Golden Arrows have 12. Bidvest Wits stand on 11, Stellenbosch FC 9 while Maritzburg United, Baroka FC and AmaZulu FC all have 7. Chippa is the last on the list with only 5 goals.
Golden Arrows’ Mutizwa brought 7 goals to them but B. Ntuli is the most successful player who scored 7 of 7 goals for AmaZulu with 100% of contribution to the team. P. Shalulile and K. R. Erasmus both scored 7 goals as well. Some other names on the list are T. J. Mabaso (5), S. Motebang (4), B. Grobler (4), A. M. Modiba (4), W. Isaacs (4) and T. Zwane (3).
