Middendorp; new signing was tested in the ‘rightful position’

Coach Ernst Middendorp says that one of the Kaizer Chiefs’ new signings was tested in his ‘rightful position’ against Mamelodi Sundowns as Amakhosi romped to a Shell Helix Ultra Cup victory. The Glamour Boys have made a tremendous first-half performance against the reigning Absa Premiership champions on Saturday afternoon. They took a 4-0 lead already in the half-time break but resurgent Masandawana pulled two back in the second half.

Coach Middendorp said that the weekend, which also included a 2-0 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic in the Macfue Cup, was a great preparation for Kaizer Chiefs. Despite that, he insisted that there was more than just 4-2 win they are pleased about.

Middendorp about their performance

The first game against Mamelodi Sundowns was a good win. I am very happy that a player like Leonardo Castro has come to the party and put up his hand as a force to be reckoned with. Yagan Sasman was also tested on what I generally thought is his rightful position as a centre-back. Not to mention a few other elements, including combinations, came to the fore.” – Middendorp added.

Sasman has played three Absa Premiership games so far for Kaizer Chiefs since he made a switch from Ajax Cape Town earlier in the year. He will be hoping to get another appearance under his belt this weekend when they head back to his hometown to face the Cape Town City in the Telkom Knockout.
