Kaizer Chiefs; Tactical mistakes during Arrows match

Kaizer Chiefs pulled off a 1-0 win against Golden Arrows on the weekend. However, it didn’t hide their tactical errors which cost them points in a few other games. Arrows had their defensive concept that seemed impossible to conquer and Chiefs were lacking width along with service.

Frosler brought some quality to Chiefs but Arrows didn’t waste their time. Ernst Middendorp had only positive words for Steve Komphela’s team as they were strong opponents. Komphela had great organization and strategy for defence making it almost impossible to reach a clear opportunity. Learn more about the teams in soccer 10 archive.

In the first half, Kaizer Chiefs were struggling

Arrows’ tactics was defending very narrow and targeted on two Chiefs’ men. Gladwin Shitolo joined as a third centre back, covering the most of late runs from Chiefs’ midfielders. Amakhosi managed to get only two attempted shots in the first period.

As Chiefs used a 4-2-2-2 shape with Dumisani Zuma and Lebogang Manyama at two number tens, the Arrows’ width had to come from the fullbacks. Kgotso Moleko and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya both jumped in, delivering crosses and passes while opposing wingbacks closed them.

Chiefs were in a struggle to cover the ground with Kgotso Moleko and close down the Divine Lunga. This situation gave an advantage to Arrows. During the half time, Frosler and Moleko joined together and turned the tables. Frosler gave the Chiefs more confidence as he made the most successful passes. He delivered eight balls from the right flak and then brought a long-throw into the game.

Samir Nurkovic got in to save the day, making an opening while Manyama netted. Steve Komphela had a good plan which worked almost throughout the entire game. However, his players weren’t such a threat by themselves. They barely touched a penalty while Chiefs did it 23 times. Even though their defence was really good, they had too much pressure and didn’t know how to use all of the players. Players got tired and there was no fresh power getting into the game. Chiefs could also do much better and it seems like they underestimated the opponent once again. Use supabets fixtures to get ready for the next match!
