Kaizer Chiefs dropped points after Maritzburg United loss

Kaizer Chiefs dropped significant points after a loss over Maritzburg United on Saturday evening. Chiefs lost 2-1 after the game at FNB Stadium ended. The final result has left coach Ernst Middendorp speechless. Chiefs are still holding the first place in the PSL results log but they are seven points down ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Former Chiefs midfielder, Frank Makua believes that the Kaizer Chiefs defense is making Daniel Akpeyi look bad. Akpeyi’s performance has come under the microscope once again when on Saturday evening after the club lost their game.

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a shocking defeat

The Nigerian player has committed a pretty noticeable mistake for the United’s first goal. He failed to catch the ball that could have easily been kicked away. Daniel Akpeyi was once before named the Absa’s November Player of the Month.

However, that didn’t seem to stop him with the series of errors while stranding on the goal-line and staring into the ball for the Team of Choice’s second goal. He had a chance to dominate the six-yard area but did not take it. „I think that the defense on Saturday, especially the two center-backs were lacking communication and the combination just wasn’t right. If you look at the two goals which were conceded it is worrying. In the first one, the keeper left his goal-line and nobody from the defense was helping him to attack.“

„He was also trying to catch the ball instead of hitting it which was not going the best way. He made a blunder but the defense should have been covering him. Daylon Claasen, who scored the first goal was not being marked and everyone was just following the ball. That is where everything was lost.“ – Former Glamour Boys midfielder Frank Makua stated.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to get back on track on February 29th when they take on the Orlando Pirates. The Glamour Boys have once again underestimated their opponent which cost them a fair share of points.
