SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has just won his first piece f silverware at the helm of the club just after claiming the MTN 8 trophy on Saturday. He had hailed a number of coaches he has worked with so far for grooming him, which culminated him in winning the MTN 8 Cup at the weekend.
The Pretoria side edged Highlands Park 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium to get back the MTN 8 Cup. The Tembo’s piece of silverware was his first one since being thrust into the seat of SuperSport head coach on a permanent basis in August.
After the MTN 8 triumph, Tembo gave credit to Pitso Mosimane (who is a former SuperSport United defender), who he played under at the club. He as well hailed the Matsatsantsa’s former coaches Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter, under which he served as an assistant coach. Let’s hear what he had to say…
Kaitano Tembo on his success
“I’ve worked with many coaches. When I was the assistant coach I always made sure that I supported whoever I worked with and learned as much as I could. I was working with Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt, worked with coach Pitso and I’ve also worked with Stuart Baxter.” – Tembo explained.
“I believe in having mentors who I can call any time and say I’m going to call you. Even now, I can call Stuart at any time. I can call him when I need help on one, two or no matter how many situations. He is always there to help me because he’s been there and seen it. I can speak to Pitso, Gavin and Gordon any time regarding the players. I can speak to them because there is that trust which was built in all these years. They trust me and believe in me. I have also thanked them because without them I would not be here where I am today.” –Kaitano Tembo added.
At SuperSport, Tembo was also working under Eric Tinkler. After the MTN 8 victory, Kaitano Tembo now shifts his attention to helping the club bid for the PSL title they won last time in 2010.
