Chiefs vs Pirates – Amakhosi still on top with 48 points

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for the first time ever are both having German coaches. Ernst Middendorp and Josef Zinnbauer have weighted their skills against each other in one of the most anticipated African club fixtures.

Chiefs are leading the league under coach Middendorp and entering into the final third of the season after victory over Orlando Pirates 1-0. Pirates are also making huge progress under their new german coach, making six straight victories until this defeat. Find out more about the teams in soccer 10 archive.

Middendorp’s focus is to end the 58-month trophy drought of the previously successful club who won a record of 53 domestic competitions since the ’70s. After losing the FA Cup final last season, german coach really made his effort to build the team to win. Pirates also got a very good coach, who previously coached Hamburg in Bundesliga. Zinnbauer transformed Buccaneers, who were unbeaten since he stepped on the spot.

Chiefs have nothing to worry about regarding PSL

This was a must-win game for Pirates, who are stuck behind Chiefs by just six points and played one match more. Kaizer Chiefs are leading with 48 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns who are on 41. Pirates didn’t have luck and they are stuck behind the two with 39 points, before SuperSport United with 37. Some of their players failed to stand up to the expectations, despite the lead they got.

Happy Jele failed to come out and block the shot after Lebogand Manyama scored. Frank Mhango was especially frustrated by the Chiefs defence when he missed two shots after Luvuyo Memela set him up. Not only the Pirates players were shown ineffective but Chiefs also had some team members they needed to pull back.

Leonardo Castro was just a shadow of his usual self in the last game, being quickly closed down by the Pirates defence. However, Daniel Akpeyi had prepared quite a show and made the most saves throughout the match. Akpeyi definitely deserved the title of man of the match. Lebogang Manyama was a constant threat to Pirates, getting the ball in midfield.

Samir Nurkovic is also one of the names that need to be mentioned. He kept the Pirates defence busy at all times, dropping back in the midfield to get the ball which ended to be the only goal of the match. Prepare for Chiefs next fixture with betway predictions!
