Mamelodi Sundowns have been missing from the top seeds when it comes to draws for the CAF Champions League. The Sundowns will soon find out what kind of matches can they expect in the famous African competition. They will find out more information on Wednesday when the draw for the group stage of the competition will take place. The PSL League winners have been competing in the group stage for five years in a row. They won in 2016 and reached the semifinals two years later.

Nevertheless, the winners will not be among the four Confederation of Africa Football draw teams. The main reason is that they didn’t have enough points in previous competitions and thus deserved the first place. Instead, the right came from the Egyptian club Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, TP Mazembe also Esperance of Tunisia.

Each club receives points for results within an African club competition during a five-year cycle. After that, the top four clubs are evaluated. Sundowns will be in pot two with USM Alger, Raja Casablanca, Etoile Sahel. The group stage will begin next month with six matches. Three will be away and two matches will be held at home.

CAF is a competition where champions clubs from all six continental confederations compete. Each year the winner plays against the CAF Super Cup winner.
